How To Silence A Microwave Beep | Silent Mode SOLVED

Some months ago, when I invited some guests, my wife suggested that it was time to buy a microwave. So we went over to the store and chose a Samsung brand. What annoyed me was the constant beeping sound. When I wanted to press a button, it would come with a beep. Sometimes, the microwave makes noises even when no food is inside it. So I wanted to know how to silence the microwave.

I researched different brands to know if my Samsung microwave was peculiar. I discovered the beeps were standard on several brands. So this article will demonstrate how to silence a microwave no matter what brand you use.

How to Silence a Microwave Beep

Each manufacturer follows different specifications for enabling silent mode in a microwave. However, enabling silent mode is one of the ways you can use to silence an annoying, beeping microwave.

Sharp Carousel Microwave Silent Mode

If you have a sharp carousel microwave, you could use the following steps to stop the annoying beep.

  1. Locate the stop/clear button on the front of the microwave.
  2. Press and hold this button.
  3. Keep pressing it for about 3 seconds.
  4. That’s it. From now on, the microwave will be muted.

If, on the other hand, you want to reverse the process, do steps 1 to 3 above, and the process will reverse.

Also, another way you can silence a sharp carousel microwave is to do the following:

  1. First, locate the sound button on the microwave. It usually has a 1 or 0.
  2. Then, press and hold either of these buttons for 3 seconds.

You could use the second step if the first did not work out. These steps apply to other Sharp microwave brands as well.

The process of muting key beeps on an Oster microwave is pretty straightforward.

  1. Make sure the microwave door is closed. If there is food inside, remove it.
  2. Locate the Power/Off button. Press and hold this button.
  3. Simultaneously, locate the “0” button and press and hold it too.
  4. The moment the microwave emits a single beep sound, release both buttons.
  5. You will no longer hear beeps on pressing the keypad.

Whirlpool Microwave Silent Mode

Setting a Whirlpool microwave to silent mode is a very simple process. There are two methods of muting your Whirlpool depending on the model.

  1. Press and hold the #2 button on the keypad for 5 seconds

If this fails:

  1. Press and hold the Auto Cook button for 3 seconds to toggle the silent mode on or off.

If you have a glitch and your machine is continually beeping, power off your Whirlpool microwave at the wall.

  1. First, power off the microwave.
  2. Then, remove the plug from the socket on the wall.
  3. Wait for like two minutes. This will cause the charge on the microwave to go off.
  4. Plug the microwave back into the socket. The computer in the microwave will now reset.

This eliminates most beeps on a whirlpool microwave. But if the annoying beep continues, you will need to call customer service with your specific microwave model number.

GE Microwave Silent Mode

You can change the “beep” volume on a GE microwave when you press the keypad or even disable it altogether. But note that the timer and sounds that play when the cycle ends will still be on.

Here’s how to do it.

  1. There is a “beeper volume” button on the microwave’s control panel. Locate it.
  2. The 0 to 3 buttons control the loudness settings. Pressing “0” will mute all sounds. “1” will reduce the volume to the lowest possible level. “2” is the medium volume setting. And the loudest setting is “3.”
  3. Pressing the “Start/Pause” button will save the settings.

Stop Samsung Microwave Beeping

If you are experiencing continual beeping from your Samsung Microwave you can stop it beeping by pressing the “Stop/Clear”. If that does not work, here’s what to try next:

  1. Unplug the microwave. Then wait for 60 seconds.
  2. Listen for the beeping sound when the power is off. If you still hear it, the fault is not from the microwave.
  3. Restore power to the microwave. The beeping should now stop.

But if that doesn’t help, you could also try this:

  1. Place a cup of water inside the microwave. Make sure you have something like sugar in the water.
  2. Run the microwave for a few seconds.
  3. Listen for a chime from the microphone.
  4. Then press the “Stop/Clear” button.

If the beeping continues, then you have a faulty microwave. Call the repairman.

Panasonic Microwave Silent Mode

These are the steps to enable silent mode on your Panasonic microwave.

  1. Unplug the microwave from the socket. This removes any charge on it.
  2. After a few seconds, plug it back in.
  3. Press the “Start” button just once.
  4. Choose metric measurements for the microwave using the timer. Once, it makes it kilograms (KG), and twice, it makes it pounds (lb).
  5. Press “Start” again to select “Beep Choice.”
  6. Once again, press the timer once.
  7. The microwave mode will then change to “Beep off.”
  8. Then finish programming the microwave by pressing “Stop/Reset.”

Emerson Microwave Silent Mode

Turning off the beep sounds in an Emerson microwave is relatively straightforward. Emerson designed their microwave for simplicity because they know some users don’t like the audible acknowledgment when they press the keypad buttons.

  1. Locate the microwave control panel.
  2. Press the “Sound” button. You can find it under the “9” button.
  3. The display will now change to “On.”
  4. Now, press the “Sound” button again. It resets the display to “Off.”
  5. Press the “Start” button. This will save your settings.
  6. After saving your settings, it will no longer emit the beeping sound.

You can undo the process above by following the steps again.

Silence Mode for Other Models.

If you want to know how to silence a microwave for other models, the best option is to look at the manual that came with the model. But one thing is shared with all microwaves. Most of them usually have a sound button like the Emerson microwave.

  1. Look for the button written “Sound” or “Mute.”
  2. Press and hold it for a few seconds. That will stop all the beeping.

One thing I noticed with Breville microwaves is that they usually come with a “mute” button that solves all beeping problems in one go.

Some microwaves have a sound button that you can access by pressing “Settings.” So look out for the settings menu if the sound button is not explicit. I have noticed that LG microwaves will only show the sound button when you initiate settings.

If you have an insignia model, you can do the following:

  1. Open the microwave door.
  2. Keep pressing each button, holding them for about 5 seconds, and see what happens next.
  3. Eventually, you will find the button that will mute all beeping.

One simple trick you can use is to beat the beep! This is useful if you use the microwave during the night while others are sleeping. Just open the door seconds before the countdown ends.

Is Your Microwave Beeping Due to a Fault?

Microwave manufacturers made microwaves beep to protect us. Because microwaves release radiation, the beeping helps us to know when the food in the microwave is done, so we can open the door only when it has stopped working. Also, sometimes the keypads are made to beep as confirmation that you correctly pressed the key.

But sometimes, that beeping can be so repetitive and annoying that it is no longer the default. As a result, we suspect something is wrong with the microwave.

Here are some tips on common faults and how to resolve them.

When There’s A Glitch With The Microwave

When the food is ready in the microwave, it beeps to alert us. We then open the door and take out the food. But sometimes, it keeps on beeping after opening the door and closing it. In such cases, you should suspect an internal glitch in the microwave.

1. Check that the door is fully closed.

If the microwave door is not closed correctly, it will beep continuously. So what you have to do is to open the door and shut it. That should stop the beeping. But if it continues, the sensor that detects the door is closed is at fault and will need replacing.

In such cases, reopen the door and close it shut several times. If that is not the solution to the problem, replace the sensor.

2. Check If The Power Supply To The Microwave Is Adequate.

Microwaves work at high voltages. Without adequate power, they would not be able to generate the radiation that makes them work properly. That is why the microwave will beep continuously if the power it receives is inadequate. So, when there is constant beeping, check the microwave’s power supply. If it is insufficient, switch to another power source or stop using it. Using an inverter with a microwave is often advisable to regulate the power supply.

3. Do A Soft Reset If The Beeping Continues.

After verifying that the door is closed correctly and the power supply is adequate, you could do a soft reset if the beeping continues. Your microwave probably has an internal glitch. Most people don’t know about soft resets. That is why they are confused about how to silence a microwave.

  1. Look for the “Reset” button on the microwave. This is usually on the display board.
  2. Press and hold it for some seconds, stopping the beeping.
  3. If there is no “Reset” button, then the “Off” or “Clear” buttons will do. Hold these buttons for more than 3 seconds.

4. Perform A Quick Break Routine

Sometimes, the sensors for detecting food in the microwave’s chamber are not functioning correctly. In this case, a quick break routine will be enough to solve the problem. Here’s how to do one:

  1. Put some water and sugar in a glass or Tupperware container. Put it inside the microwave.
  2. Let the microwave be on low and cycle for 15 seconds.
  3. Take out the cup when the cycle completes, and the timer runs out.
  4. Then press the “Stop” or “Clear” button.
  5. The sensors are now reset.

Hopefully, a quick break routine will be enough to stop the beeping noise.

5. Remove Power And Reboot The Microwave

If all else has failed, you might need to remove the charges from the microwave. This is known as “hard resetting.”

  1. Turn off the microwave.
  2. Remove the plug from the socket.
  3. Let it remain in this state for about 30 minutes. This removes all electricity or charges collected on the microwave, especially in the sensors and processors.
  4. After 30 minutes, plug it back into the power socket.
  5. Turn the microwave on.

Hard resetting will indeed eliminate the beeping sound.

What To Do If Your Microwave Won’t Stop Beeping After Diagnosis

After trying out several approaches described above, your microwave’s beeping won’t stop.

At this point, you must be on edge and anxious. Don’t lose your cool. There are other approaches you could take to solve the problem.

Consult the User Manual

User manuals are provided with all microwaves to provide usage instructions. Some of these manuals have FAQ pages outlining common problems and solutions. It would be wise to consult the microwave manufacturer’s user manual at this stage. The beeping problem and its solution are likely outlined in the user manual.

A careful reading of the user manual might also point out where you must have misused the microwave. According to Sonat.com, you must read the user manual the first time you buy a microwave or any product. After that, it helps you use the microwave safely and saves you time.

Call A Technician

Call customer service and report the beeping problem when all else fails. Most of the time, they will ask you to contact a technician after going through the issue with them. This is particularly true when customer service is satisfied that the problem might be due to the circuitry in a sensor or processor.

The last time I had a beeping problem, the technician recommended replacing one of the faulty components on the microwave. But solutions differ as brands differ.

Even if you have experience as a DIYer, I would not advise you to open the internals of a microwave. You might get harmful radiation by doing so. The magnetron in a microwave is very sensitive, and one wrong action could damage it ultimately. Instead, let a qualified technician handle the process.
